Hamburg is a gorgeous port city filled with canals, bridges, and stunning architecture. It’s skyline is mixed with the old and the new. Fishing boats, sailboats, tour boats sprinkled the water.

  • St. Nicholas Church - Originally built in 1195 and then renovated after a fire in 1874. During WWII is was heavily bombed by allied forces which destroyed the inside of the church but the tower, steeple, crypt and some of the walls stayed intact. It’s an incredible structure that shows it's burn marks, yet still stands strong with it’s gargoyles atop watching over the city. In 2005, an elevator was constructed to allow visitors easy access to the top of the tower. The views are incredible from the top.
  • Speicherstadt  -The world's largest complex of warehouses, spanning an area of 260,000 square meters. It was built into the Elbe river between 1883 and the late 1920s on thousands of oak poles as a free economic zone in Hamburg's port.  It is now a Unesco World Heritage Site.
  • Take a stroll over the bridges and through the canals to get a beautiful view of the water and the architecture.
  • Elbphilharmonie - A gorgeous concert hall. Between the reflection off the water and off the sky it looks like it’s glowing! We took escalators up to the viewing area to get another beautiful look from above Hamburg.
  • Miniatur Wunderland -One of the top places to visit in Hamburg. It’s a gigantic model of a miniature world. Italy, Sweden, Germany, the U.S, and so many more countries depicted in these gorgeous scenes. Every 15 minutes the scenes would go to nighttime, Illuminating the scenes with street lamps or concert lights. It is so hard to describe how incredibly detailed these scenes are. We absolutely loved Miniatur Wunderland! https://www.miniatur-wunderland.de/
  • Chocoversum chocolate museum and tour - This 90 minute tour took us through the history of chocolate and how it is made, all the way from the cocoa bean to the chocolate bar that you buy. They gave us tasting throughout the entire process which was fascinating. Going from a bitter taste with a vinegar smell all the way to the smooth, sweet, indulgent chocolate we have today! Our tour guide was so fun and we absolutely loved making our own unique chocolate bars. https://chocoversum.de/en/

Where to eat in Hamburg

Via Toselli - We loved this little Italian restaurant tucked in a street full of restaurants.  We had pasta, pizzas, and salads.  Everything we ate was fresh and delicious.  https://via-toselli.de/
