Rome - 6 day Sample Itinerary

Day 1  - Arrive in Rome – most likely you will arrive early in the morning. Drop your bags off, grab your walking shoes and walk the city!  Grab some delicious pizza and a gelato for dessert. I love walking the Borghese Gardens. Fresh air, no crowds. Perfect after a long flight! Enjoy a walk around the Piazza del Popolo and the Santa Maria churches. Head back to the hotel early in the evening for a good night sleep so you can feel rested for a full day of exploring the next day!

Day 2  -  I highly recommend doing a city tour on your second day in Rome. It will help you get your bearings and you can see a little bit of everything in the city. Then you can spend the next few days going back and spending time at your favorite locations. I recommend the Eternal City Tour for Children by Pinnochio Tours- http://pinocchiotours.com/eternalcitytourforchildren.html

This is a fantastic tour to see all of the great areas of Rome. After your morning tour, you’ll be starving. A giant plate of pasta will be calling your name. Grab some lunch and spend the rest of the day getting lost in the streets of Rome

Day 3  - Spend your 3rd day going back to some of those favorite places from the tour. Some of my favorites are: The Spanish Steps, The Barcaccia Fountain, Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, and Piazza Navona. While you are walking around, stop for a Panini and grab a drink out of one of the hundreds of faucets on the city’s buildings.

Day 4  - I highly recommend on day #4 taking a morning tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. This is a can’t miss, must see in Rome. I highly recommend The Colosseum Tour by Pinnochio Tours  http://pinocchiotours.com/colosseumtourforchildren.html.  They will share with you the history of the Colosseum and the fascinating stories that lie in this amphitheater. Then they will take you to the ancient grounds of the Roman Forum.  Keep the theme of Gladiators and ancient Rome going by taking the kids to The Roman Gladiator School  https://www.viator.com/tours/Rome/Roman-Gladiator-School-Learn-How-to-Become-a-Gladiator/d511-2466GLAD  Here they will learn how Gladiators trained, dressed, and the weapons they used! This was definitely a highlight for our kids!

Day 5  - Spend day #5 at another must see in Rome- Vatican City, St. Peter’s and the Sistine Chapel. The lines are atrocious to get into the Vatican. With a tour or a guide you will bypass all of the lines plus they tell you all the incredible history.  I highly recommend the Vatican Tour by Pinnochio Tours http://pinocchiotours.com/vaticanandsistinechapeltourforchildren.html.  Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and explained the history as a story. Our kids were fascinated. 3 years later and they can still tell you the story of the Sistine Chapel. Spend the rest of the day exploring the streets around Vatican City.

Day 6  - Spend your last day seeing any sights you may have missed. If you have extra time head to Castel Sant’ Angelo to explore a castle in the heart of Rome.
